Darwin Nunez is poised to become one of the top earners in global football after his salary details at Al-Hilal were reportedly leaked.

Darwin Nunez is on track to become one of the highest-paid footballers worldwide after agreeing to join Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

According to The Athletic, Al Hilal has reached a verbal agreement to sign the 26-year-old striker from Liverpool in a deal reportedly worth €53 million (£46.2 million) plus add-ons, following weeks of speculation.

Liverpool are expected to take a financial loss on Nunez, who joined the club from Benfica in the summer of 2022 for an initial £64 million plus add-ons. Meanwhile, the Uruguayan forward is set to nearly triple his current weekly salary of £140,000.

TalkSPORT reports that Nunez will earn a staggering £400,000 per week at Al Hilal, making him one of the highest earners in the Saudi Pro League and beyond.

To put this into context, Capology states that Nunez’s new wage surpasses that of players like Virgil van Dijk, Bruno Fernandes, and Lamine Yamal, and matches the salaries of Mohamed Salah and Vinicius Junior.

Liverpool reportedly rejected an offer from Al Hilal worth around £70 million in January, but the Saudi club appears close to securing their top transfer target in the coming days.

On Wednesday evening, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano updated Nunez’s situation on X, confirming: “Darwin Núñez to Al Hilal, here we go! Verbal agreement completed between all parties. €53m plus add-ons to Liverpool as revealed today, 3-year deal for Núñez. Núñez said yes and Inzaghi only wanted him. Medical next.”

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher predicted Nunez’s departure last season. After the striker struggled to make a big impact in the 2024/25 Premier League season, Carragher remarked on Sky Bet’s The Overlap in December, “We said we don’t know what he is going to do, so how will the defenders? Nobody ever says that about a good player, do they? I’m not sure he will be here next season, I think Liverpool will move him on.”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who appeared alongside Carragher, also expressed disappointment, saying, “I never know what is going to happen with Nunez when he goes through. I would’ve thought for that price we would have seen a lot more from him by now. It is not going to be any different to what he is now.”
