Cesc Fabregas has urged Arsenal to prioritise signing a top-class striker this summer, suggesting Viktor Gyokeres is a strong candidate for the role. Despite calls from fans, the club failed to bring in a true centre-forward last summer, a decision many believe contributed to their faltering Premier League title bid.
Manager Mikel Arteta expressed frustration after Arsenal didn’t secure a striker in the January transfer window, especially with injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz further exposing their lack of attacking depth. While Mikel Merino has stepped in as a false nine, the club is determined not to repeat past mistakes and is already working to reinforce its attacking options.
Arteta reportedly admires Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, but his £160 million price tag and strong competition for his signature may push Arsenal to consider alternatives. One such alternative is Gyokeres, who is said to prefer a move to Arsenal over Manchester United, with a reported £58 million valuation.
Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, is reportedly a big admirer of Gyokeres. Fabregas told Amazon Prime that Berta’s experience makes him the right person to build for success, emphasizing the need for a prolific striker who can score 40 to 50 goals per season. On Gyokeres, Fabregas said he’s “100 per cent” a viable option for the Gunners.
Sporting coach Rui Borges also praised Gyokeres, calling him “clearly the best in the league” following a recent win.
