Bruno Guimaraes has expressed his joy at being part of Newcastle United, describing himself as an adopted Geordie and feeling “very happy” at the club.
Nearly three years have passed since Bruno left Lyon to join Newcastle, taking on an immediate relegation battle because he believed the Magpies were destined to become a major force in world football. The club’s owners were honest with him about their initial goal of avoiding relegation, but they also shared their long-term ambition of securing Champions League qualification—a milestone Newcastle achieved in 2023.
Bruno played a key role in that top-four finish and now, as team captain, he aims to lead Newcastle to end their long trophy drought in the New Year while also securing a return to European competition. Despite speculation linking him to Manchester City throughout the year, Bruno reaffirmed his commitment, saying, “This is the team where I feel like home.”
“No matter what, the fans will always support me,” Bruno told NUFC TV. “They’ve been incredibly kind to me and my family. As I’ve said before, sometimes my father is even more famous than me here!
“The fans have embraced us like family. We’ve become Geordies now. I feel very happy at this club and think of Newcastle as a second home outside Brazil. If I ever return here in the future, I know they’ll always welcome me as part of the family.
“I want my sons to understand what I’m building here. We’re creating a special story for them. I feel like one of the fans, and every time I play, it’s not just for me or my family—it’s for Newcastle United.
“I’m not just saying this for the sake of it. When I lose, it hurts because it’s a loss for me and for Newcastle. I feel like a supporter, and even after I retire, I’ll always back this team because they made me feel at home from day one.”
