Better signing than Gallagher: Spurs hold talks to sign PL “superstar”

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid, completing a smart piece of business that has been in the works for some time after missing out on the former Chelsea midfielder in 2023. The move appears to have been influenced by concerns over Rodrigo Bentancur, who has been sidelined for several months after suffering a hamstring injury in the recent loss to Bournemouth.

Gallagher is viewed not just as cover, but as an improvement on Bentancur, whose limited midfield influence has restricted Thomas Frank’s tactical approach this season. While the deal strengthens the middle of the park, Tottenham are still expected to add further reinforcements, with time remaining in the transfer window and plans already in motion to secure a new forward.

Injuries have also affected the attacking department. Mohammed Kudus is ruled out for the foreseeable future with a hamstring problem picked up against Sunderland, while Brennan Johnson has already been sold to Crystal Palace. These developments have increased the urgency for Spurs to recruit an attacker, particularly given their existing struggles in front of goal. The early completion of Gallagher’s signing and Johnson’s departure suggests there is scope for another impactful addition before the window closes.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham have made informal enquiries about Omar Marmoush as they weigh up a possible move this month. The Egypt international has found game time limited this season, and the arrival of Semenyo is expected to further reduce his opportunities. Although the forward has yet to rediscover his best form in the Premier League, he impressed following his move last year, and Spurs are prepared to offer him a platform to regain momentum.

Marmoush has endured a difficult spell under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, but a move to Tottenham could reignite both his career and Spurs’ attacking threat. Known for his clinical finishing and direct dribbling, he showed his quality after arriving for around £59m. However, his role at City has diminished significantly, falling short of expectations just a year into his move.

His Premier League statistics reflect the drop in involvement and output compared to the previous campaign. Despite this downturn, Marmoush had previously excelled with Eintracht Frankfurt, recording 37 goals and 20 assists in 67 appearances before his transfer to England. He also claimed the Premier League Goal of the Season award last year with a powerful strike against Bournemouth.

With Kudus already sidelined and attacking options limited, Spurs continue to seek greater cutting edge in the final third. Gallagher’s arrival adds energy and balance to midfield, with the former Chelsea player ranking highly in La Liga for both attacking and defensive contributions. However, his signing alone does not address all of Tottenham’s ongoing issues.

Although his opportunities have been restricted at City, his previous performances suggest he has the ability to succeed as a leading forward in the Premier League, and a move to Tottenham could provide the opportunity to fulfil that potential.
