Aurelien Tchouameni has previously expressed his admiration for Liverpool, amid reports that the Reds have submitted an offer to sign the Real Madrid midfielder this January.

During the summer transfer window, Liverpool made only two permanent signings. Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, one of the signings, remained on loan at Valencia for the season. The other, Italian winger Federico Chiesa, had a promising debut against West Ham in September but has been sidelined with a muscle injury, limiting his appearances.

Liverpool were initially in the market for a defensive midfielder but abandoned their pursuit after Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi declined a move to Anfield. Manager Arne Slot instead transitioned Ryan Gravenberch into the role, a decision that has paid off with the Dutchman’s impressive performances.

However, as the January transfer window opens, Liverpool have reportedly made a bid to sign Tchouameni to strengthen competition in midfield. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the club has offered £41 million for the France international.

Liverpool’s interest in Tchouameni is longstanding; he came close to joining them from Monaco in 2022 but ultimately chose Real Madrid for a fee of €80 million, potentially rising to €100 million with add-ons.

Despite turning down Liverpool previously, Tchouameni’s earlier remarks suggest he may be open to the move this time. Speaking to CNN, he said, “I like both [Real Madrid and Liverpool]. I can watch Spanish games and English games. It’s different to play in Spain and different to play in England. But for me, it’s just a matter of adaptation. I’m an ambitious person. Every time I do something, I just want to win.”
