Aston Villa manager Unai Emery highly praised Liverpool’s new head coach, Arne Slot, expressing that the Reds are performing even better than they did under Jurgen Klopp’s iconic leadership.

Klopp stepped down from his role at Anfield last summer after guiding Liverpool to their first English top-flight title in 30 years, along with winning the 2019 Champions League and reaching three other European finals.

Despite being allowed only one senior signing this season, Slot has led Liverpool on an impressive run both domestically and in Europe. The Reds are in a strong position to surpass Arsenal in the Premier League title race and are the clear favorites to win the first-ever expanded Champions League.

Although Slot has consistently credited Klopp for laying the groundwork for this success, Emery praised the new manager’s impact. “They were fantastic under Klopp, but they’re even better with Slot,” the Spain boss said ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Villa Park on Wednesday.

“As a coach, it’s a huge challenge to devise a game plan against them. This will be the toughest match we’ve had in recent weeks and months.

“We have to be competitive because they will push us to our limits, both tactically and individually. I respect them a lot, and their performance level this season is higher than in the past two years. They are even better now.”

After a record-breaking start to the season, Slot’s Liverpool have slowed slightly in recent weeks but still hold a slight advantage over Klopp’s team from last season.

This version of the Reds has earned three more points than their predecessors, who also led the league after 25 matches. However, while Klopp’s side eventually slipped to a disappointing third place, that outcome seems unlikely for Slot’s Liverpool—at least according to Unai Emery.
