May 20, 2025 — Arsenal are set to ramp up their pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres following Wednesday’s Europa League final, according to multiple reports.
The Swedish forward, who has enjoyed a stellar season in Portugal, is also a top target for Manchester United. However, Arsenal are reportedly ready to move swiftly to secure his signature as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the 2025–26 season.
Gyökeres, 26, has scored over 30 goals across all competitions this season, drawing attention from several top European clubs. Arsenal’s renewed interest comes amid uncertainty surrounding their current striker options, with Gabriel Jesus struggling for consistent form and fitness.
With the Europa League final set to mark the end of the club season, Arsenal are expected to open formal negotiations with Sporting and the player’s representatives immediately afterward. The Portuguese club are understood to be holding firm on Gyökeres’ release clause, believed to be around €100 million.
Manchester United, meanwhile, have also identified Gyökeres as a prime candidate to lead their line next season. However, Arsenal’s intent to act quickly could give them a decisive edge in the race for his signature.
The Gunners are hoping that Champions League football and the promise of a title challenge will help lure the striker to North London over Old Trafford.
