Arsenal may still pursue Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak in the transfer market, with reports suggesting that Mikel Arteta views him as the ideal player to finally lead the Gunners to Champions League success—an achievement that has eluded them in their history.
Since joining Newcastle in the summer of 2022, Isak’s reputation in the Premier League has grown. Despite an injury-plagued debut season, in which he scored 10 goals in 22 appearances, he improved significantly last season, netting 21 times in 30 league games. This season, under Eddie Howe, he has already scored 17 goals in just 22 matches, bringing his total to 48 league goals in 74 appearances for Newcastle. Arteta believes this prolific form could translate to the Champions League, prompting Arsenal to prepare an offer for him.
According to Fichajes, Isak has become one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe following his performances over the past three seasons since moving from Real Sociedad. Arsenal, in particular, are eager to secure his services.
A key reason for Arsenal’s strong interest is Arteta’s belief that the Swedish international could be the ‘missing piece’ to elevate the team to Champions League glory. However, Newcastle are reluctant to part ways with their star forward, and any potential deal would need to start at €120 million (£100 million). Isak’s ability to glide through defenses, his underrated physicality, and his clinical finishing have established him as one of the league’s top attackers. With Arsenal in need of a top striker—currently relying on Kai Havertz—they see Isak as the perfect addition to enhance their squad.
Newcastle are aware of the growing interest and remain firm on their ambitions to compete at the highest level in the Champions League. Nevertheless, a tempting offer could lead to negotiations, and Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation, ready to make a move if Isak is open to a switch to London.
