Transfer expert David Ornstein has delivered disappointing news to Arsenal fans regarding their pursuit of a key transfer target.
With just four days remaining in the January window, Arsenal have yet to secure any new signings as they continue their push for the Premier League title. The club has been searching for a striker, with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins identified as their top target, though a deal remains unlikely.
Now, Ornstein has added to Arsenal’s setbacks by revealing that they are set to miss out on another player they had been tracking this window.
Earlier, reports suggested Arsenal were considering a move for 18-year-old Norway international Sverre Nypan, who plays for Rosenborg and has attracted interest from several top European clubs. Despite his age, Arsenal viewed him as a potential starter.
January seemed like an ideal time to make a move since the Norwegian league is in its off-season. However, Ornstein now reports that Nypan has decided to remain at Rosenborg until the end of the season.
With Norway’s domestic season running from March to November, he may not be available until next year. However, a summer transfer is still a possibility, with Arsenal emerging as the frontrunner due to their strong ties with Rosenborg and the opportunity for Nypan to play alongside national teammate Martin Ødegaard.
Since joining Rosenborg in January 2022, Nypan has made 60 appearances across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists. He also caught attention last summer when he started in Rosenborg’s 1-0 friendly victory over Manchester United in July.
