Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of PSG and also suffered a double injury blow, with two key players forced off during the match.
Addressing the fitness concerns of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibou Konate, Arne Slot spoke to the media post-match (via liverpoolfc.com), saying: “I’ll need to check, but to me, Ibou seemed more fatigued than actually injured. Trent, however, had to leave the pitch — which is never a good sign. From what I’ve heard from those who saw how he got hurt, it didn’t look promising. So I would be surprised if he’s fit for Sunday.”
With both players now doubtful for the Carabao Cup final, Liverpool face a growing crisis at right-back, especially with Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez also sidelined. It now looks likely an inexperienced player will have to fill in on the right side of defense at Wembley.
Slot admitted it felt “unfair” to exit the Champions League in such fashion, especially as Liverpool ended the game with Jarell Quansah and Wataru Endo in the backline — highlighting the injury struggles.
Despite the defensive issues, it was Liverpool’s attack that fell short against PSG, with Darwin Núñez’s poor showing — earning a 1/10 rating — underlining the team’s failure to convert chances.
Still, Slot praised the team’s overall Champions League campaign, and with the Premier League title race still alive, all focus now shifts to Sunday’s final. A Carabao Cup win would give the squad a well-earned chance to celebrate their progress before refocusing for the season’s remainder.
