Liverpool Eye Title Glory with Potential January Reinforcements
Liverpool have made a near-flawless start to the season, positioning themselves as firm contenders for the Premier League title. Under Arne Slot, the Reds are six points clear at the top of the table, and a few smart additions in January could solidify their chances of securing the title in Slot’s debut campaign.
While Liverpool have been linked with several stars, the club’s transfer strategy remains uncertain. At the same time, crucial decisions loom regarding key players Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom are out of contract in the summer. January could be the last opportunity to cash in on any of them, though new deals are reportedly on the table.
Real Madrid have shown interest in Alexander-Arnold, having a £20 million bid rejected, while Salah and Van Dijk prioritize extending their stays at Anfield. However, uncertainty surrounds Alexander-Arnold’s future.
Liverpool’s Potential XI for February
Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker remains a guaranteed starter, with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to join in the summer as backup.
Defence: Both Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold are expected to stay put, while Andrew Robertson continues at left-back. A new addition, such as Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapié, could bolster the center-back options, addressing injury concerns for Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konaté. Hincapié’s versatility also provides cover at full-back.
Midfield: With Ryan Gravenberch excelling this season, reinforcements may not be essential. However, Liverpool could revisit Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, a summer target also linked to Arsenal. Adding Zubimendi would enhance depth alongside Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Curtis Jones.
Attack: Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, with 18 goals this season, could strengthen Liverpool’s attacking options. His arrival might allow Darwin Núñez to leave, either on loan or permanently, while keeping Diogo Jota in the mix.
Projected XI:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Hincapié, Robertson; Gravenberch, Zubimendi, Mac Allister; Salah, Marmoush, Gakpo.
With these potential adjustments, Liverpool could be well-equipped to chase Premier League and European glory this season.
