Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has quietly introduced a new rule ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season — and fans are loving the change.
Slot, 46, enters the new campaign as a Premier League title winner, yet Liverpool’s summer transfer activity suggests he’s aiming even higher. The Reds are set to compete in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup, and have strengthened with signings like Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong. Armin Pecsi and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman have also joined the squad.
Meanwhile, Liverpool continue their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. According to Sky Sports, the 23-year-old is keen on a move to Anfield despite interest from Newcastle United. The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that Liverpool are progressing in negotiations with Frankfurt, with a deal valued at over €80 million (£69.2m), and that personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block.
Amid the buzz around transfers, a more understated gesture by Slot has also caught fans’ attention. Liverpool Academy reporter Lewis Bower shared that Slot personally attended the scholarship signing ceremony for the club’s new intake, posing for individual photos with each young player — a task usually handled by academy staff.
Bower posted on X: “A nice touch this year; Arne Slot present during scholarship intake signing, pictured alongside each player individually.”

Next up for Liverpool is their pre-season tour. After a 3-1 win over Preston North End, they’ll head to the Far East to face AC Milan (July 26) and Yokohama F. Marinos (July 30), before returning to Anfield for a friendly against Athletic Club on August 4. They will then face Crystal Palace in the Community Shield at Wembley on August 10.
