Liverpool manager Arne Slot is staying grounded despite his team being in a strong position to claim the Premier League title after the latest results.
Although Liverpool recently dropped points against Everton and Aston Villa, Arsenal’s surprising defeat to West Ham on Saturday, coupled with the Reds’ dominant 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, has given them an 11-point lead at the top.
With Arsenal struggling due to injuries, other rivals trailing even further behind, and just 11 matches remaining in the season, many viewed Liverpool’s win at the Etihad as a pivotal moment in the 2024/25 title race.
However, Slot, who previously won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord, downplayed the significance.
“I’m mostly pleased because winning at the Etihad is rare. It was my first time here, but not many teams or managers manage to win in this stadium, so we should be happy about that,” the Dutchman told BBC Match of the Day after the match.
“It was only a week ago that we had a tough win against Wolves, so I know every one of the 11 remaining games will present different challenges. There’s still a long way to go, but we’re in a good position.”
With seven of Liverpool’s final fixtures set to be played at Anfield, their chances of securing a record-equalling 20th English league title look even stronger.
Left-back Andrew Robertson acknowledged that fans might get carried away but emphasized that the players will remain focused.
“We know our fans will be excited after this performance, and that usually means we’re doing something right on the pitch,” he told BBC Match of the Day.
“But as players, we won’t allow ourselves to think we’ve already won the title. We have to keep pushing, and there’s no room for complacency.”
