In that match, Ekitike played centrally in a front three alongside Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah, with Florian Wirtz positioned just behind them. However, with Liverpool still linked to Isak, Slot provided an interesting insight into how he envisions Ekitike fitting into his tactical setup and how Isak’s arrival might influence that.
Slot’s View on Ekitike at Liverpool
Speaking to Sky Sports, Slot was asked whether he saw Ekitike solely as a traditional number nine, making runs through the middle—a role Liverpool clearly still wants to strengthen, given their ongoing pursuit of Isak. The Dutch manager responded by explaining how he sees the 23-year-old’s versatility, suggesting Ekitike could effectively operate in multiple attacking roles.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in Isak remains unchanged after Newcastle rejected a £110 million bid for the Swedish forward. Isak has since made it clear he refuses to play for Newcastle again and has even moved out of his home in the city to push for a transfer.
What is confirmed is that Isak won’t be part of Liverpool’s squad when they face Bournemouth at Anfield to start the Premier League season.
