“Arne Slot Confirms Diogo Jota Injury Setback After Sensational Comeback Goal for Liverpool”
Arne Slot has revealed that Diogo Jota has suffered a setback following his impressive return against Fulham. The Liverpool forward, who scored the equalizer on Saturday after a two-month absence due to a rib injury, experienced stiffness and missed training on Monday. Slot does not anticipate Jota starting against Southampton in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash but remains hopeful he can play a few minutes to regain fitness.
During Tuesday’s press conference, Slot said: “Diogo would have been perfect to start, but after Saturday’s game, he wasn’t fully fit and missed training yesterday. We’ll see if he can train today, but I don’t expect him to start. Hopefully, he can get some minutes.”
Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas is nearing full fitness and could feature against Southampton, though Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley remain unavailable. Slot also plans to ease Federico Chiesa back into action following his injury layoff, with other key players like Caoimhin Kelleher and Wataru Endo set to start as part of a squad rotation.
Serving a one-match touchline ban, Slot noted the differences in England’s regulations compared to the Netherlands, saying: “I can still do media duties and be around the dressing room. It’s not ideal, but it’s different from Holland—I’d prefer to be on the sidelines.”
