Arne Slot and Andy Robertson React to Liverpool Fans Booing Trent Alexander-Arnold

Slot and Robertson Respond After Alexander-Arnold Is Booed by Liverpool Fans

Liverpool manager Arne Slot and defender Andy Robertson have addressed the crowd’s reaction after Trent Alexander-Arnold was booed upon entering the pitch during the 2-2 draw against Arsenal at Anfield. This was the team’s first home game since Alexander-Arnold announced his departure at the end of the season. The right-back started on the bench, with Conor Bradley taking his place in the lineup.

When Alexander-Arnold was subbed in for Bradley with around 25 minutes remaining, he was met with boos and chants in support of Bradley. Both Slot and Robertson have since commented on the reaction.

Slot Defends Decision and Acknowledges Fan Reaction

Speaking to Sky Sports, Slot said he respects fans’ right to express themselves but felt his decision to bring on Alexander-Arnold was justified. He highlighted the defender’s contribution late in the match and said the support for him grew as the game progressed.

“One of the good things about being in Europe is that everyone is free to have their own opinion—and that applies here in Liverpool as well,” Slot said. “Some weren’t happy, others were. Toward the end, more fans showed support.”

Slot emphasized that he made the substitution based on what was best for the team, noting Alexander-Arnold’s positive impact on the pitch. He added that while some supporters voiced their displeasure, many backed the player, and he didn’t want to focus solely on the negative reactions.

Robertson Reflects on Emotional Moment

Robertson, a close friend of Alexander-Arnold, also responded to the incident. Like Slot, he didn’t criticize fans but offered a heartfelt defense of his teammate.

“There’s a lot of emotion involved,” Robertson said. “Everyone has the right to feel how they do, and I won’t tell anyone how to react.”

He expressed sadness over losing a teammate and friend, highlighting Alexander-Arnold’s influence on him and his significant contributions to the club’s success. Robertson said the booing was hard to witness but emphasized his admiration and respect for the player.

“He’s made his decision. It’s not easy, and it’s certainly emotional. But I’m proud of him. He’s done so much for this club, and he’ll be missed both on and off the pitch.”
