Alexis Mac Allister had given Liverpool an early lead after goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher avoided conceding a penalty, but Ryan Sessegnon soon equalized, putting Fulham back in contention.
Within five minutes, Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz struck to give Fulham a commanding 3-1 advantage. Although Luis Diaz pulled one back late on, Liverpool ultimately suffered just their second defeat of the season.
Robertson’s costly errors in pivotal Fulham clash
Mac Allister’s stunning long-range goal in the 14th minute had come somewhat against the run of play, but Fulham responded with Sessegnon’s close-range finish.
The match turned against Liverpool nine minutes later when two mistakes from Robertson led to Iwobi’s goal. The Scot’s attempted cross-field pass was intercepted by Iwobi, and after a deflection, Robertson’s attempted clearance fell straight to the Fulham winger, who capitalized with a powerful strike past Kelleher.
Just five minutes later, Muniz sealed the win for Fulham, leaving Liverpool with no way back.
Fans turn on Robertson after ‘awful’ display
While Robertson is regarded as a Liverpool legend and one of the Premier League’s finest left-backs, many supporters agreed that his best days are behind him.
His performance at Craven Cottage drew criticism, with some fans comparing him to former Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno and labeling his display “atrocious.”
With Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez strongly linked to Anfield, Robertson’s struggles suggest that Slot may need to consider a long-term replacement at left-back.
