Arsenal clearly require a more clinical striker than Gabriel Jesus or Kai Havertz, according to club legend Martin Keown.
Mikel Arteta’s side displayed their best form last night, securing a 3-0 win over Monaco in the Champions League, a strong rebound after their 1-1 draw with Fulham at the weekend.
Bukayo Saka netted twice, with Havertz adding a third, while Jesus put in a solid performance in a rare start for the team.
After the match, Keown acknowledged Jesus’ positive influence but stressed that neither he nor Havertz is the consistent goal-scorer Arsenal desperately need.
Despite Havertz’s solid performances, Keown pointed out that, as a non-natural striker, he doesn’t provide the goals Arsenal need. Meanwhile, Jesus has struggled to meet expectations since his transfer from Manchester City.
It appears that Arteta may be considering changes, and Keown has made it clear that Arsenal now require a more reliable goal-scorer.
“We talk about Havertz and Jesus – they need to score more goals and be more ruthless,” Keown said during TNT Sports punditry, as quoted by the Metro.
“They need that extra option, a player who can create chances out of nothing.
“Jesus has a lot of experience and has contributed to the team, but he needs to be scoring more goals on the pitch.
“He has played his part, but Arsenal need that prolific goal-scorer to finish those chances.”
Arsenal supporters would likely agree, as the team often seems overly reliant on Saka for goals, with no player in the squad appearing capable of reaching the 25-30 goal mark in a season.
