Alisson Becker has departed Liverpool’s pre-season tour, with journalist James Pearce and others revealing the unexpected exit is due to a personal matter.
Liverpool, currently in Asia for pre-season, recently suffered a 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in Hong Kong. They are set to face Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan on Wednesday, but Alisson will be absent for the clash.
The Brazilian goalkeeper missed Tuesday’s open training session and was granted permission to leave the squad. While no specific details have been released by the club or player, it is understood to be for personal reasons.
As a result, new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to start in goal, with backup from Freddie Woodman, Armin Pecsi, and Kornel Misciur.
Alisson is anticipated to rejoin the team at the AXA Training Centre once they return to the UK, ahead of a double-header against Athletic Club at Anfield on August 4. The squad will play two separate matches that day at 5pm and 8pm.
His departure marks the third from Arne Slot’s squad this tour, following Joe Gomez’s injury-related exit and Luis Diaz’s departure to complete a £65 million transfer to Bayern Munich. Diaz was in Munich on Tuesday for his medical and to finalize his deal.
Liverpool’s pre-season, which began with games against Preston and Stoke City, concludes with the Community Shield clash against Crystal Palace at Wembley on August 10.
