A new report has shed light on why Alexander Isak is reportedly furious with Newcastle United, as talk of a potential move to Liverpool continues.
The Swedish striker is said to be frustrated with the club’s handling of his situation. While multiple sources have claimed it would take a British-record fee—around £150 million—for Newcastle to sell Isak, it’s believed the player expected otherwise.
Earlier this month, Liverpool made a formal £110 million bid, which Newcastle rejected — a decision that reportedly angered Isak. On Tuesday night, the 25-year-old released a statement accusing the club of breaking promises, suggesting his trust in the club had been broken.
“Promises were made, and the club has known my stance for a long time,” Isak said. “To act like this is a new development is misleading. Once promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t go on.”
According to a report from the Mail, sources close to the situation claim Isak believed that any offer over £100 million would trigger his release this summer — something Newcastle now appears to deny.
“If that’s true, it changes the picture entirely,” the report noted.
In response to Isak’s public remarks, Newcastle expressed disappointment, insisting that no official ever made such a commitment.
The club stated:
“Alex is under contract, and no promises regarding a summer exit have ever been made. While we respect players’ personal wishes, we must act in the best interest of the club, the team, and our fans. The conditions for a sale have not been met, and we don’t expect them to be.”
They added that Isak is still seen as part of the club’s family and would be welcomed back when ready to return to training.
