Alexander Isak Sends Message to Newcastle After Completing Dream Transfer to Liverpool
Alexander Isak has officially left Newcastle United and joined Liverpool in a blockbuster deadline day transfer, calling it a dream move.
Isak had made it clear over the summer that he wanted to leave Newcastle, even refusing to play for the club as they resisted selling him. After a drawn-out transfer saga, Liverpool finally met the asking price, paying a British-record £130 million — including £5 million in solidarity payments — to sign the Swedish striker.
Taking to Instagram, Isak, now wearing Liverpool’s No.9 shirt, described signing for the reigning Premier League champions as an “honour and privilege.”
In a follow-up post, he reflected on his time at Newcastle, where he netted 62 goals in 109 games and helped end a 70-year trophy drought with a Carabao Cup win — ironically against Liverpool.
“I want to thank my teammates, the staff, and most importantly the city of Newcastle and its incredible fans for three unforgettable years,” he wrote. “Together, we made history — from reaching the Champions League to winning the club’s first trophy in over seven decades. It’s been an honour to be part of that journey. Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle.”
His farewell came after Newcastle released a short and notably cold statement confirming his departure. They did not mention his goal tally or wish him success, reflecting the soured relationship between club and player.
Isak’s agent, Vlado Lemic, added fuel to the fire with a cryptic remark during an appearance on talkSPORT via Jim White: “It’s nice when you have someone to be with, but it is even nicer when you know who you will never be with again.”
Tensions had escalated in recent weeks after Isak publicly accused Newcastle of breaking promises about his future. The club responded by denying that any official had guaranteed him a move this summer.
With new forwards Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa joining the squad, Newcastle eventually decided to part ways with their unsettled star on the final day of the transfer window.
Isak on Why He Chose Liverpool
Isak has signed a six-year deal at Anfield, bringing Liverpool’s summer spending to £446 million.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “It’s a mix of what Liverpool are building and what they already are — the history, the ambition. The chance to be part of that and to make history really excites me.
“I want to win trophies. That’s my biggest motivation. I believe this is the perfect environment to grow, take my game to the next level, and contribute to the team.”
Currently away on international duty with Sweden, Isak is expected to make his Liverpool debut against Burnley on September 14.
