Alexander Isak makes shocking demand to Newcastle for new contract as Liverpool transfer rumors swirl.

Alexander Isak has set a firm condition for staying at Newcastle United, amid growing interest from Liverpool and Saudi club Al-Hilal.

Following a standout season where he scored 23 goals and played a key role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph, the Swedish striker has attracted significant attention. Liverpool had reportedly made him a top target for new manager Arne Slot, but the club has now turned to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, agreeing on a £79 million deal—suggesting Ekitike was a backup option to Isak.

At the same time, Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have shown strong interest in Isak, with reports indicating the striker has given approval for negotiations to start.

Speaking to Saudi outlet Arriyadiyah, Isak’s agent Gonzalo Gaitan confirmed they are weighing all possibilities: “We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player,” he said, without confirming whether Isak would remain at Newcastle or move on.

Isak issues Newcastle contract demand

With transfer speculation intensifying, Isak has reportedly outlined the exact terms he would need to commit his future to the Magpies. According to talkSPORT, he is seeking a new contract worth £300,000 a week—an amount that would shatter Newcastle’s current wage structure and potentially cause internal issues, similar to problems seen at Manchester United in recent years.

Although Isak has returned for pre-season training, he was noticeably absent from the club’s 4-0 defeat to Celtic on Saturday.

Eddie Howe responds to Isak speculation

Manager Eddie Howe addressed Isak’s absence, saying: “It was my decision. He travelled with us to Glasgow, but I sent him home due to the ongoing speculation. I didn’t think it was fair for him to sit in the stands under those circumstances.”

Despite the uncertainty, Howe expressed optimism about keeping the striker: “I’m confident he will still be a Newcastle player at the end of the transfer window. Players like him are rare and valuable, and we want to hold onto him.”

He added, “Yes, I’ve spoken with him, but that’s not unusual. He’s trained really well and handled everything professionally, even with all the noise around him.”
