Alexander Isak Yet to Submit Transfer Request Despite Liverpool Interest – Here’s Why
Earlier this week, Alexander Isak made headlines with a powerful statement regarding his future. The 25-year-old striker is currently training away from Newcastle United’s first-team squad amid growing interest from Liverpool.
Isak, who was recently named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the 2024/25 season, chose to skip the awards ceremony. That same evening, he issued a public statement revealing tensions with the club, declaring that his relationship with Newcastle had reached a breaking point.
In his message, Isak said:
“I’m honoured to be included in the PFA Team of the Season. I’m grateful to my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United for their support.
However, I chose not to attend the ceremony due to ongoing issues behind the scenes. I’ve stayed silent while others have shared their version of events — versions that don’t align with the truth.
The club has been aware of my stance for a long time, and certain promises that were made have not been kept. When trust is broken, it becomes impossible to move forward together. For me, change is now necessary — for everyone involved.”
No Official Transfer Request – But There’s a Reason
Despite making his dissatisfaction public, Isak has not formally submitted a transfer request. According to the BBC, this decision is financially motivated. Officially requesting a transfer can trigger financial penalties for the player, such as losing entitlement to bonuses like loyalty payments and signing-on fees.
Isak reportedly earns £120,000 per week at Newcastle, not including bonuses — making these potential losses significant.
Newcastle Responds to Isak’s Statement
While Isak hasn’t submitted a formal request to leave, the club is fully aware of his desire to move on. Newcastle issued a statement in response, emphasizing that he remains under contract and that no promises were made regarding a summer exit.
Their statement read:
“Alex is still under contract, and no official at the club ever gave assurances that he could leave this summer.
We aim to keep our best players, though we understand they may have personal ambitions. We’ve had conversations with Alex and his representatives and have made it clear that the necessary conditions for a sale have not been met — nor do we expect them to be.
This club values its traditions and family atmosphere. Alex is still part of that family and will be welcomed back when he’s ready to rejoin the squad.”
With the summer transfer window closing on September 1, 2025, it remains uncertain whether Alexander Isak will still be a Newcastle United player by then.
