Newcastle United Legend Praises Alexander Isak After Stellar Display Against Tottenham
A Newcastle United icon has lauded Alexander Isak following the striker’s crucial goal in Saturday’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Is there currently a better forward in the league than Isak? The Swedish international has been in sensational form, with his clinical finishing propelling the Magpies into serious contention for next season’s Champions League. Since finding the net in a 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest in November, Isak has scored ten goals in his last ten league appearances, including a remarkable streak of seven consecutive games, equaling a record previously set by Alan Shearer and teammate Joe Willock.
Isak’s exceptional run has coincided with a resurgence for Eddie Howe’s side, who have recently secured victories over Aston Villa, Manchester United, and Ipswich Town. Their win in North London marked their sixth consecutive triumph across all competitions, leaving them just one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea and earning them a spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals for the second time in three seasons.
However, Isak’s prolific form has fueled transfer speculation, with clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly eyeing a big-money move for the former Real Sociedad star. Shearer, though, believes there’s little chance of Isak leaving Newcastle anytime soon.
Speaking on BBC Match of the Day 2, the former Newcastle captain said: “It’s between him and Salah right now, without a doubt. Haaland’s had a tough spell, but he’ll always score goals. Isak is an outstanding striker who offers something unique. He’s comfortable playing wide or centrally and is an exceptional goalscorer. He’s in incredible form at the moment.”
Shearer added: “I don’t think anyone in this country can afford him. Newcastle paid around £63 million for him, and with the form he’s in and the value he brings, the transfer fee required to pry him away would be astronomical.”
