Alan Shearer took a dig at Alexander Isak during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Bournemouth.
Isak has been heavily linked with a move from Newcastle to Liverpool this summer, with the Reds reportedly having a £110 million offer turned down earlier this month.
According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Isak is expected to miss Newcastle’s upcoming game against Aston Villa amid ongoing transfer rumors. The report claims the Swedish striker is effectively “on strike,” having demanded a transfer to Anfield.
In response, Newcastle are said to be eyeing PSG’s Goncalo Ramos and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa as possible replacements after losing out on Hugo Ekitike, who has joined Liverpool.
Ekitike made an instant impact, scoring Liverpool’s opener with a sharp finish before assisting Cody Gakpo for their second goal early in the second half.
Shearer took to Twitter shortly after to praise Ekitike and throw shade at Isak, writing:
“Surely any forward thinking of going to Liverpool will be having second thoughts now, having to play second fiddle to the brilliant Ekitike all season?”
He ended the tweet with a winking emoji, making his message clear.
While Shearer was clearly impressed with Liverpool’s attacking display, their defense faltered in the second half. Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo pulled one back on 64 minutes, and later netted a stunning solo goal to level the score.
