An AI-powered supercomputer has simulated the Champions League last-16 draw following the conclusion of the play-off round on Wednesday night.
The play-offs delivered several surprises, with football powerhouses AC Milan, Juventus, and Manchester City all making early exits.
Now, the supercomputer has released its predictions for the next stage, bringing mixed news for English clubs. Arsenal and Aston Villa are expected to suffer surprise eliminations, losing to PSV and Borussia Dortmund, respectively.
However, Premier League leaders Liverpool receive a more favorable prediction, with the supercomputer forecasting an 8-3 aggregate victory over Benfica. Even more promising for Liverpool fans, the machine predicts they will go on to win the competition, defeating Borussia Dortmund and Inter before edging out PSG in a thrilling 4-3 final.
According to CasinoHawks’ supercomputer, these predictions are based on team strength, league performance, form, and betting odds. The system simulates the remainder of the season 10,000 times, averaging the results to minimize anomalies.
Beyond Arsenal and Aston Villa’s expected exits, the supercomputer also predicts PSG will eliminate both Barcelona and Real Madrid. Additionally, Club Brugge is projected to reach the quarter-finals by defeating Lille, while Inter is backed to beat Bayern Munich at the same stage. PSV also makes the list of last-eight teams.
Regarding English clubs’ upcoming fixtures, Liverpool will take on either PSG or Benfica, following PSG’s dominant 7-0 victory over Brest. Arsenal is set to face an Eredivisie opponent, either Feyenoord or PSV Eindhoven. Meanwhile, Aston Villa, making their first Champions League appearance since winning the European Cup in 1982-83, will play one of Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge, or Lille for a spot in the quarter-finals.
