Real Madrid have identified Arsenal’s William Saliba as their top defensive target for the upcoming summer transfer window. The 23-year-old French center-back has garnered attention for his outstanding performances in the Premier League, forming a formidable partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of Arsenal’s defense.
Reports from French outlet Le10Sport indicate that Real Madrid have already initiated contact with Saliba’s representatives to express their interest and assess the feasibility of a transfer. The Spanish giants view Saliba as a long-term solution to bolster their defensive lineup, especially considering recent injury concerns among their current center-backs.
However, Arsenal are reportedly reluctant to part ways with their defensive stalwart. The Gunners have placed a substantial valuation on Saliba, insisting that any potential transfer fee would need to surpass the £80 million that Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire in 2019, making Saliba the most expensive defender in history.
Saliba, who is under contract with Arsenal until 2027, has been instrumental in the club’s recent successes and is considered a key component of Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans. His contributions have not only solidified Arsenal’s defense but have also elevated his status as one of the premier defenders in European football.
As the summer transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will meet Arsenal’s valuation and if Saliba will be tempted by a move tow the Santiago Bernabéu. For now, he continues to play a pivotal role in Arsenal’s pursuit of domestic and European honors.
