A surprising Premier League team is set to make a £30 million offer for a Liverpool star, and the club might have to accept.

Liverpool are reportedly set to receive a transfer offer from an unexpected Premier League club for one of their defenders, according to a new report.

On Tuesday, talkSPORT claimed that Trent Alexander-Arnold had agreed to join Real Madrid this summer when his Liverpool contract expires. However, Real Madrid may have to pay a fee if they want him to participate in the 2025 Club World Cup, as squad submissions are due by June 10. Since Alexander-Arnold’s contract runs until June 30, he can only move to Madrid as a free agent after that date.

While incoming manager Arne Slot is likely already searching for defensive reinforcements, Liverpool might need to replace another unexpected departure.

According to The Times, Carabao Cup winners Newcastle United are preparing a £30 million bid for centre-back Jarell Quansah as they gear up for a return to European competition, whether in the Europa League or Champions League.

Newcastle reportedly believes this offer, including add-ons, could persuade Liverpool to sell, especially since Quansah could see more regular first-team action at St. James’ Park.

Quansah featured in Liverpool’s first Premier League match of the season—a 2-0 victory over Ipswich—but was substituted at halftime after struggling aerially. He didn’t play another league game until December. Since then, he has alternated between the starting XI and the bench, even filling in at right-back due to injuries to Alexander-Arnold, Conor Bradley, and Joe Gomez.

The 22-year-old also received a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad but did not feature in the World Cup qualifying wins over Albania and Latvia.

Liverpool manager Slot has suggested Quansah could be used more often at right-back, making a potential move to Newcastle an even bigger blow. Speaking after the defender’s England call-up, Slot said:

“In recent games, he has played in an unfamiliar position as a right full-back. But in my opinion, he has the qualities to succeed there—he is strong, fast, comfortable on the ball, and adds an extra dimension to our play.”
