A professional lip reader has disclosed what Arne Slot said to the match officials during his heated outburst, which led to his red card after Everton’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
The match, the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, saw James Tarkowski score a dramatic late equalizer. A pitch invasion occurred before a VAR review confirmed the goal.
Following the final whistle, referee Michael Oliver sent off Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones after a confrontation. He also showed red cards to Slot and his assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, for their intense protests.
New footage has revealed Slot’s exchange with the officials, shedding light on the reason behind his dismissal. The Dutch manager was seen gesturing toward the linesman before confronting Oliver and shaking his hand angrily.
Professional lip reader Jeremy Freeman told SPORTbible that Slot shouted at an assistant referee, “That’s not a push? It’s a f**king disgrace… if you go and watch that again.” He then sarcastically told another official, “Well done,” and before shaking hands with Oliver, he added, “Great game.”
After receiving the red card, Slot responded, “Sure, you give me a red for that? I will check it out for later… me and you yeah? Sure, give me a red card… we’ll talk after?”
As a result, Slot is expected to face a touchline ban for Liverpool’s upcoming game against Wolves on Sunday.
Speaking post-match, Virgil van Dijk shared his disappointment with the result but emphasized the need to focus on the next fixture. Despite the draw, Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points.
