A Liverpool star reportedly agreed to a summer transfer just hours before their Carabao Cup final clash with Newcastle United.
On Sunday, Liverpool and Newcastle faced off at Wembley for the season’s first major trophy. Despite being favorites, Liverpool, under Arne Slot, delivered a poor performance on the big stage.
Newcastle secured a 2-1 victory, with goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak. Although Federico Chiesa pulled one back late for Liverpool, the Magpies held firm to claim their first major domestic trophy in 70 years.
Ahead of the final, reports emerged that Liverpool winger Luis Diaz had accepted a potential summer move to Barcelona. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared via social media: “BREAKING: Luis Diaz has already said YES to potential move to Barcelona, reports Sport.”
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona are keen on signing Diaz in a deal worth around €70–€75 million. It’s also believed that Diaz views Barcelona as a dream destination and has previously expressed a desire to play for them.
Diaz started in the final against Newcastle but struggled to make an impact and was subbed off after 74 minutes.
Since joining Liverpool from Porto in 2022, Diaz has scored 37 goals in 140 appearances across all competitions.
Liverpool are set to return to action on April 2 when they face rivals Everton at Anfield.
