Harvey Elliott has shared his thoughts on his Liverpool future, admitting he’ll need to carefully consider whether staying at Anfield is the right move for his career this summer.
The England U21 international, who recorded five goals and three assists last season, saw limited Premier League starts despite being fully fit throughout the campaign.
In an interview with HaytersTV, Elliott explained: “It’s a conversation I need to have with the club. I’m turning 22 now and will be 23 next season, and I don’t want to waste years of my career—it’s short, and anything can happen.”
Liverpool’s No.19 spoke honestly about the challenges of being a fringe player in a title-winning squad under Arne Slot, despite believing he’s ready to contribute more significantly.
“I felt the PSG first leg was a high point… I saw it as a chance to start and show what I’m capable of… but the manager makes the final call,” he said.
Uncertainty over playing time amid potential attacking shake-up
With the futures of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Federico Chiesa all reportedly uncertain, Liverpool could be cautious about letting too many attacking players leave in one transfer window.
This situation could open the door for Elliott to have a bigger role—especially if Chiesa’s transfer doesn’t materialize or Diaz heads to Barcelona, a move still being discussed in Spanish media.
Nevertheless, Elliott is clearly conscious of the limited time available to fulfill his potential.
“I need to take a step back and think about whether I’m truly satisfied with where I am,” he added. “I don’t want to leave—this club means everything to me—but at the same time, I have to prioritize what’s best for my career.”
His ambition for more game time adds pressure on Arne Slot ahead of pre-season, particularly with midfield roles already under scrutiny and new targets like Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez potentially increasing competition further.
