Liverpool’s summer transfer activity is starting to take shape, though not all developments involve new signings.
According to James Pearce of The Athletic, three current squad members are set to depart as they seek new opportunities elsewhere.
Tyler Morton, Nat Phillips, and Rhys Williams are reportedly being prepared for permanent transfers, as the club aims to trim the squad ahead of pre-season under new head coach Arne Slot.
None of the three featured in Liverpool’s title-winning Premier League campaign, and with Slot putting his stamp on the team, swift decisions are being made.
Pearce notes the trio are “expected to leave in search of a fresh challenge,” a sentiment that’s difficult to dispute.
Morton struggled to make an impression last season at Anfield, with limited playing time. Meanwhile, Phillips and Williams saw more action on loan, but neither managed to deliver consistently strong performances.
Kelleher and Tsimikas also linked with exits
The departures may not stop there.
Caoimhin Kelleher has now sealed a permanent move to Brentford, with Liverpool opting to accept a modest fee for the Irish goalkeeper.
Likewise, Kostas Tsimikas looks likely to depart this summer, having slipped down the defensive hierarchy.
These changes indicate a broader transformation within the squad, potentially making way for new signings. This includes the pursuit of Florian Wirtz, with a second bid reportedly rejected, according to Christian Falk. Wirtz is said to have even undergone a secret medical in Cologne, further fuelling speculation of Liverpool’s interest.
