Chelsea are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike this summer.
Liverpool, another Premier League contender, have also been linked with the Frankfurt forward. However, it appears Arne Slot’s side is currently focused on progressing negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen regarding the potential signing of Florian Wirtz.
Given Wirtz’s reputation as a generational talent, that focus seems justified.
Still, prioritizing the German international could mean Liverpool risk losing out on Ekitike to a rival.
Chelsea step up interest in Ekitike
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea are actively working to secure a deal for Ekitike. This was further backed up by RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, who confirmed ongoing talks between the Blues and the player’s representatives.
Frankfurt reportedly want €100 million (£84.3 million) for their number 11, who delivered 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances during the 2024/25 season. His contract runs until summer 2029.
Liverpool not under pressure—yet
Frankfurt’s high valuation is understandable, given Ekitike’s potential and the length of his contract. While Chelsea might feel a pressing need for a top striker, it’s unlikely they’ll seal a deal before the June 10 cutoff ahead of the Club World Cup.
This could buy Liverpool some breathing room to explore a possible move for Ekitike, especially if they first need to offload players.
