Liverpool supporters flooded social media after spotting Florian Wirtz’s reaction to a question about an Anfield switch.
With Jeremie Frimpong already through the door, Liverpool have turned their focus to Wirtz and Milos Kerkez as Arne Slot looks to strengthen further. Over recent weeks, multiple reports suggest the 22-year-old German playmaker has chosen Liverpool ahead of Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
On Wednesday evening Wirtz started for Germany in their UEFA Nations League semi-final against Portugal. He headed his side in front three minutes after the break, but strikes from Francisco Conceição and Cristiano Ronaldo gave Portugal a 2-1 victory and a place in Sunday’s final.
While passing through the mixed zone afterwards, a journalist called out, “Excited for Liverpool, Florian?” Wirtz simply nodded—staying silent but clearly acknowledging the question.
That small gesture was all it took to excite Reds fans online:

“Exactly what we needed to calm the nerves,” wrote another.
A third commented, “Nice little nod. Love to see it.”
“He could’ve ignored the question and kept walking—get the contract signed now,” added someone else.
Before the match, Germany captain Joshua Kimmich was asked about Wirtz’s future and hinted the midfielder had turned down Bayern: “He’ll have his reasons. I hope it’s the right path for him—but of course I’d have liked him at Bayern.”
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Wirtz has informed Bayer Leverkusen he only wants Liverpool, with personal terms already settled. Club-to-club talks are said to be progressing, and Liverpool have reportedly tabled an offer worth up to €130 million—an improved bid highlighted by The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
With negotiations moving quickly, Anfield may soon welcome its newest marquee signing.
