Liverpool are reportedly prepared to part ways with one of their key players as the long-running Florian Wirtz transfer saga nears its conclusion.
With just four days remaining until the summer transfer window officially opens, Liverpool are already laying the groundwork for several major moves.
The club is expected to finalise deals for Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz within the early days of the window.
At the same time, Liverpool are also weighing up which current squad members could be moved on. Among those being considered for sale is winger Luis Diaz, according to a recent report.
Football Insider quotes former Manchester United and Blackburn scout Mick Brown, who claims Liverpool see the 28-year-old Colombian as a valuable asset who could help fund incoming transfers like those of Wirtz and Frimpong.
“Liverpool are willing to let Diaz go if they secure a replacement,” said Brown. “They’ve always been open to his departure, but only once a suitable alternative was lined up.
“It’s one thing to want to improve a position, but another to actually bring in someone better. Liverpool have been working behind the scenes to identify such players, and it seems they’ve settled on Wirtz.
“This is a major signing for them, and once it’s done, they’ll be in a position to move players out and streamline the squad.”
Brown also noted that Barcelona are among the clubs showing interest in Diaz, with the Spanish side also linked to Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford as they look to reinforce their attack.
Diaz featured in 50 games for Liverpool this past season, scoring 17 goals and providing eight assists.
