Bayern Munich are reportedly weighing up a surprise move for one of Liverpool’s key players during the club’s Premier League title celebrations.
On Monday, Liverpool fans took to the streets to celebrate their team’s historic 20th domestic league title, as players and staff paraded the Premier League trophy through the city in an open-top bus.
Scenes from across Liverpool captured the joy and excitement of the massive crowds that gathered to mark the occasion.
However, the celebrations may be dampened by reports that Bayern Munich are eyeing a high-profile swoop for one of Liverpool’s standout players.
According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bundesliga champions Bayern have identified Cody Gakpo as a target in their search for a top-tier left winger.
Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl is reportedly a strong admirer of Gakpo and has already initiated talks about a potential transfer.
While it’s unclear if Liverpool would be willing to part ways with Gakpo, he is thought to be among several attacking players who could be offloaded this summer if the right offer comes in.
Gakpo, who is under contract at Anfield until 2028, would likely command a hefty fee should Liverpool consider letting him go.
For now, Liverpool fans can take some comfort in knowing Gakpo is currently only Bayern’s third-choice option, behind Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma and AC Milan’s Rafael Leão.
Since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in December 2022, Gakpo has made 128 appearances for Liverpool, netting 41 goals and providing 17 assists.
He is not alone in being linked with a possible exit — Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Harvey Elliott are also among the players who could be sold to make room for new arrivals.
Liverpool are expected to have a busy transfer window, with Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz reportedly set to join the club, while a deal for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is said to be nearing completion.
