Today shouldn’t revolve around Trent Alexander-Arnold’s possible departure from Liverpool.
It’s a day to appreciate what our No.66 has accomplished this season—together with his teammates—in helping secure Liverpool’s 20th top-flight title.
More importantly, this day belongs to the fans who were denied the chance to properly celebrate our long-awaited title win in 2019/20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing measures.
Trent’s Message at Odds with Arne Slot’s Comments
It would be unfair to suggest that Trent Alexander-Arnold intended his tweet as a direct shot at his current manager. However, the timing certainly raises eyebrows, especially after he posted on X this morning: “20 years. Gave it everything.”
This came shortly after Arne Slot made revealing comments, expressing that he wasn’t always satisfied with Trent’s effort in training.
“To put it mildly, there were moments I felt he could give more,” Slot remarked.
“I’ve told him he’s a far better defender than people think, but he doesn’t always show it.”
Former boss Jürgen Klopp later defended Trent at the LFC Foundation Gala Ball, stating that the right-back “gave absolutely everything” during his time at the club.
Did Trent Truly Give Everything?
We still believe criticism of Trent’s defensive performances has been exaggerated over the years. That’s not to say he’s been perfect—his offensive brilliance often made up for occasional defensive lapses, especially under Klopp.
Still, it’s not a great sign when your current manager suggests you haven’t consistently played to your potential.
There’s a difference between hitting a natural limit and choosing not to push harder. The latter is tough to accept—especially when other top European clubs are circling and a free transfer is on the table.
Trent Alexander-Arnold remains a phenomenal player—one we’d have preferred to keep. But perhaps it’s worth re-evaluating whether he truly “gave it everything” in this final season of his 20-year journey at the club.
