Liverpool’s summer transfer plans may have taken a significant leap forward, with new reports indicating that an urgent high-level meeting was held to fast-track a major signing.
According to Christian Falk on cfbayerninsider.com, key Liverpool representatives flew to Boston for in-person discussions with Fenway Sports Group.
The primary focus of the talks is Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, with Liverpool intensifying their efforts to land the 22-year-old ahead of Bayern Munich, who have long been interested.
Falk stated, “Liverpool are stepping up their pursuit,” and noted that Michael Edwards arranged the U.S. meeting to get approval for a potential €150 million transfer fee.
He added that the Reds are “taking the next step in the poker game for Wirtz,” particularly after the player’s family made a visit that seemingly triggered swift internal action at Anfield.

Although pundit Ally McCoist has voiced concern about Wirtz’s rising price tag, Liverpool seem undeterred.
With Manchester City reportedly out of the race and Bayern yet to finalize anything, Liverpool appear to be seizing the opportunity to strike first.
Wirtz is said to have two possible routes to Bayern — either this summer or next — but Liverpool’s pressure may now disrupt those plans.
Meanwhile, Jeremie Frimpong is believed to be close to joining the Reds and could be influential in persuading his current teammate to follow suit.
While the transfer would be costly, after years of more conservative spending, Liverpool seem ready to invest big if Wirtz is their top target.
