Fans Claim They’ve Seen the ‘Biggest Blunder’ in Premier League History After Brighton vs Liverpool Clash

Fans believe they’ve just witnessed the “biggest fumble” in Premier League history following Liverpool’s dramatic 3-2 loss to Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Monday.

Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, took the lead through Harvey Elliott after a brilliant assist from Conor Bradley. Brighton equalized through Yasin Ayari, only for Dominik Szoboszlai to restore Liverpool’s lead. However, Kaoru Mitoma leveled again before Jack Hinshelwood netted the winner for the home side.

Mohamed Salah failed to register a goal or assist during the match, despite chasing down Thierry Henry’s long-standing record of 20 goals and 20 assists in a single Premier League season — a feat the Arsenal icon achieved in 2002/03 with 24 goals and 20 assists. That assist tally remains a record, matched only by Kevin De Bruyne in the 2019/20 season.

Salah has already bagged 28 goals and 18 assists this season but hasn’t added to his assist count in months, frustrating fans who believed he was set to break Henry’s milestone. With just one league fixture remaining, he now needs two assists to equal the record and three to surpass it.

Fans online voiced their disappointment:

One user posted: “That Thierry Henry assist record is cursed. Salah was unstoppable until February.”

Another questioned: “Has Salah broken Henry’s record? He had seven weeks to get just two assists.”

A third remarked: “Salah might end up missing both the Premier League assist record and the European Golden Shoe.”

A fourth added: “This is the biggest choke I’ve seen. He needed three assists in 15 games — and vanished.”

Salah now faces a final chance against Crystal Palace. Two assists will see him match Henry and De Bruyne, but three will crown him the Premier League’s all-time single-season assist leader. He’s also just one goal contribution away from equaling the record of 47 combined goals and assists in a single campaign.
