Liverpool have made a significant call regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold just hours before their Premier League fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Reds are set to visit the Amex Stadium on Monday evening for the penultimate game of what has been a title-winning Premier League season.
In the lead-up to the match, much of the spotlight has been on Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to depart Anfield as a free agent at the end of the season.
Following his public confirmation that he will be leaving the club he grew up supporting, the 26-year-old faced boos when he came on during last week’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Anfield.
This sparked debate among fans about whether manager Arne Slot would continue to involve him in the remaining games. However, it now appears that Alexander-Arnold will be included in the squad traveling to Brighton, according to a report by David Lynch.
It remains uncertain whether he will start or be named on the bench, as he was against Arsenal. If he doesn’t make the starting XI, Conor Bradley, who recently signed a new long-term contract, is likely to take his place at right-back.
In a press conference before the match, Slot was asked whether the crowd’s reaction would affect Alexander-Arnold’s playing time in the final matches. He gave little away, stating: “As you know, I wasn’t here the last few days. Neither was Trent, so today is the first day we come back together. It’s too early to say what the squad will look like for Monday.”
Slot also urged both fans and media to shift their focus away from the situation, saying, “The whole country talked about it, and I think now it’s time to move on. Let’s focus on the title we’ve won and enjoy that feeling rather than getting caught up in Trent’s situation.”
Still, whether the fans at the Amex will let the matter rest remains to be seen, especially after footage of a farewell celebration reportedly hosted by Alexander-Arnold at the club’s training ground surfaced on social media over the weekend.
