Report: Liverpool may secure €80 million star as their second summer signing

As reported by TBR Football, Liverpool are highly interested in RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, a Dutch international midfielder valued at €80 million.

Simons is viewed as a creative force capable of influencing games from deeper midfield roles—a trait Liverpool could lack following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure.

Journalist Graeme Bailey shared insights on Liverpool’s pursuit of Simons:

“Liverpool spent months scouting Frimpong, and similarly, they’ve done extensive background checks on Xavi Simons. They really admire him and have invested time into researching him—this includes speaking to Ryan Gravenberch.

“I’ve heard that Liverpool’s top brass might have even consulted Jurgen Klopp about Simons, which is quite telling.

“They aren’t just seeking a right-back to replace Trent. Internally, there’s acknowledgment that what they’ll miss most is his creativity. So, they’re looking to bring in a player who can contribute creatively, potentially someone who fits a number 10 role.”

Slot prioritizes creativity

Slot clearly aims to increase the quality and depth of his squad this summer. While Wirtz has been linked, Simons could present a more cost-effective option.

Liverpool have reportedly consulted Gravenberch, a teammate of Simons with the Dutch national team, likely receiving positive feedback.

With Frimpong already secured, Simons could follow as Liverpool’s second signing of the transfer window.
