Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has shared his thoughts on the painful Champions League exit against Arsenal, pointing out that the most disappointing part was his team’s failure to respond in the final stretch of the game.
Arsenal defeated Madrid 2-1 in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu, sealing a commanding 5-1 win on aggregate. Speaking after the match, Ancelotti said, “It’s tough to end the game like that. We didn’t react. Usually this team fights back, but in the last half-hour, we fell apart.”
Ancelotti admitted that while the team held its own for the first 60 minutes, two goals from set pieces completely threw them off. “We were fine for most of the match, but those set-piece goals really cost us,” he explained.
Questions have since been raised about Ancelotti’s future at Madrid. When asked whether he’ll remain in charge for the upcoming Club World Cup, he replied, “I don’t know and I don’t want to think about it now. If the club decides to part ways, that’s their choice—I’ll be grateful regardless.”
With a Copa del Rey final against Barcelona approaching on April 26, Madrid faces not only a crucial match, but also some big decisions about the future of their coaching staff.
