Arne Slot has addressed speculation surrounding Darwin Nunez’s alleged training ground altercation, offering clarity on the striker’s recent absence from the Liverpool squad.
Following their 3-2 defeat to Fulham, Liverpool bounced back with a 2-1 victory over West Ham United last weekend. However, Nunez was notably absent — not even making the bench — which fueled rumors of a dispute during training the previous day.
In his pre-match press conference ahead of the Leicester City clash, Slot was questioned about the situation. He clarified that Nunez was neither injured nor unwell. Instead, Slot explained, “He didn’t feel himself the day before the match, so he went inside and wasn’t available for the game.”
Pressed for more detail, Slot repeated that the phrase “didn’t feel himself” could imply several things, but emphasized that Nunez hadn’t argued with anyone. “No, he didn’t have any words with staff. He left because he didn’t feel right,” he confirmed.
Despite scoring 18 goals last season, Nunez has only netted seven so far this campaign, and uncertainty over his future continues to mount.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has weighed in, stating that Nunez is likely to depart Liverpool this summer. Romano revealed on X that Al Nassr had a bid turned down in January, but Liverpool are expected to entertain offers in the coming months, with interest reportedly coming from clubs in Spain and Saudi Arabia. Nunez himself is said to be open to a fresh start elsewhere.
