Declan Rice’s move from West Ham to Arsenal has continued to divide opinions among Irons supporters.
Despite leaving behind an impressive legacy at the London Stadium, many fans have struggled to support him since he joined a rival London club. While Rice has become a vital player for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side—playing a central role in their run to the Champions League semi-finals—his success has sparked mixed reactions from West Ham fans.
Jason Cundy was left shocked after hearing one West Ham supporter admit on talkSPORT that they were rooting for Arsenal in the Champions League, purely because of Rice’s involvement. The comment didn’t sit well with Cundy, who called the fan a “whopper” and questioned their loyalty.
“What’s wrong with you?” Cundy asked. “You don’t want him to win it—you’re better than that. I can’t believe you actually want Arsenal to do it.”
Rice, who previously led West Ham to Europa Conference League glory under David Moyes, now has a shot at another major European title. Arsenal will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals, with hopes of reaching the final for the first time in their history.
However, while Rice’s individual success could be historic, many West Ham supporters are unlikely to cheer on Arsenal’s European ambitions—regardless of their former captain’s presence.
