Mohamed Salah Sets New Premier League Record in Liverpool’s Win Over West Ham
Mohamed Salah added another milestone to his glittering career by breaking a Premier League record during Liverpool’s 2–1 victory against West Ham United at Anfield on Sunday.
Salah provided a stunning outside-of-the-foot assist to Luis Díaz for Liverpool’s first goal, which took his total goal involvements this season to 45—comprising 27 goals and 18 assists. This achievement sets a new record for most goal contributions in a 38-game Premier League season, surpassing the previous high of 44 held jointly by Thierry Henry (2002/03) and Erling Haaland (2022/23).
His 18 assists this season also mark the highest since Kevin De Bruyne tallied 20 in the 2019/20 campaign.
The game itself was a tense affair. After taking the lead, Liverpool appeared to be coasting until Andy Robertson’s unfortunate own goal in the 86th minute brought West Ham level. But Virgil van Dijk restored Liverpool’s lead with a powerful header just three minutes later, sealing a crucial win for the Reds.
Salah’s landmark came just days after he extended his contract with Liverpool, putting an end to transfer rumors.
The victory extends Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to 13 points over Arsenal, with only six games remaining. The club could secure their 20th league title as early as next weekend, depending on other results.
