Merino Silencing His Critics
Merino’s journey in North London hasn’t been without its challenges.
After joining Arsenal last summer, the 28-year-old initially struggled to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League. His early days were further hampered by a shoulder injury sustained in his first training session, which kept him sidelined for a month.
Earlier in the season, following a win over Brentford in which Merino scored, Troy Deeney shared his mixed views on the Spaniard while speaking to BBC Sport.
Deeney acknowledged Merino’s technical qualities but expressed uncertainty about whether he could reach Arsenal’s required level, suggesting he might need more time to fully settle in.
Despite the early doubts, Merino has proven his worth, becoming an unexpected but vital figure in Arsenal’s attack.
