Liverpool fans shared their opinions after the club posted a photo and video of Trent Alexander-Arnold on its official social media accounts.
The 26-year-old right-back has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid after his contract expires in June. Recent reports indicate that he is close to securing a five-year deal with the 15-time Champions League winners, though neither club has confirmed the move yet.
Alexander-Arnold hasn’t played since Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final loss to PSG on March 11 due to an ankle injury. However, he is aiming to return before the end of the season, as his team looks set to win their 20th top-flight title.
On Thursday (April 10), fans reacted after the club shared a photo and video of Alexander-Arnold seemingly reporting to training and participating in a promotional campaign on Instagram and X.
One fan wrote: “Why are you posting Trent? Come on lads!! Get with the picture!!” Another commented: “I would probably watch this if HE wasn’t in it.” A third said: “Get him off the channel please.” And a fourth added: “Stop making videos with Trent, please.”
Former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher discussed how fans view Alexander-Arnold, telling Sky Sports last Sunday, “Liverpool supporters will appreciate what Trent has done on the pitch. It may taint his legacy for some, but when you think of players who spent their entire careers at the club and turned down offers to leave, that solidifies their place in the hearts of supporters. He came through the academy, which very few players do. He’s won everything, and he’s been a fantastic player for Liverpool. If he leaves, I’ll be disappointed, but I wish him well.”
Alexander-Arnold isn’t the only Liverpool player potentially leaving on a free transfer this summer. Key players Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also have contracts that are nearing expiration.
Van Dijk, 33, addressed the situation following Liverpool’s 3-2 loss to Fulham last Sunday, saying, “There is progress. These are internal discussions, and we’ll see. I love the club.”
As for Salah, 32, who has scored 27 league goals this season, reports from BBC Sport state that he is in “advanced negotiations” over a new contract.
