Harvey Elliott’s future at Liverpool is increasingly uncertain following an update from Melissa Reddy.
The England youth international has largely been restricted to substitute appearances during Arne Slot’s debut season at Anfield. His overall playing time has dropped significantly compared to the 2,786 minutes he logged under Jurgen Klopp in 2023/24. Notably, Klopp himself admitted he hadn’t given Elliott enough minutes last season.
Under Slot, however, the 21-year-old has managed just 583 minutes across all competitions, as the Dutchman has favored Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch in midfield.

Elliott Could Be Sold This Summer
Reddy reports that, amid speculation over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s potential move to Real Madrid, Elliott could also be sold if Liverpool receive a suitable offer.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Reddy explained:
“Liverpool have made Alexander-Arnold lucrative offers to stay but understand his desire for a fresh challenge and the appeal of playing for Real Madrid. The club has protected him during this emotional decision-making process. However, it would be hypocritical to be frustrated by his departure when they would accept a good offer for Elliott—a player who once turned down Madrid to make Anfield his home.”
Elliott still has over two years remaining on his contract at Liverpool.
Does Liverpool Need More Physical Midfielders?
Some believe that relying on smaller midfielders is a disadvantage in the Premier League. Slot’s team selections suggest he may share this view, given Elliott’s limited playing time.
Despite this, Elliott has been an impactful substitute, contributing six goal involvements (four goals, two assists) at a rate of one every 97.16 minutes—an impressive record for a midfielder.
Even with his efficiency, Slot continues to prioritize Szoboszlai and others, which may indicate a lack of trust in Elliott. Ultimately, the young midfielder’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain.
