A Premier League star once had his payslip leaked while playing for Arsenal, revealing just how much top footballers in England truly earn.
Footballers at elite clubs across Europe and beyond are among the highest-paid athletes in the world. While player salaries are often kept confidential by clubs, some leagues, like Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, disclose official earnings to the public.
However, in 2019, a former Arsenal player reportedly had his salary details leaked during his peak season at the club.
Iwobi’s Arsenal Payslip Leak
Midfielder Alex Iwobi joined Arsenal as a child in 2004 and made his senior debut for the North London side in October 2015. His standout season came in 2018/19 when he played 51 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals.
But 2019 also brought controversy, as in January, his monthly payslip surfaced online, exposing his financial earnings.
Two separate documents were shared—one titled ‘Match Bonuses’ and another labeled ‘AFC Monthly Players Payroll.’ According to the payroll sheet, Iwobi earned £258,000 per month, translating to a weekly wage of approximately £60,000.
The leak also revealed he received £33,250 in bonuses following Arsenal’s Premier League victories against Burnley, Fulham, and Chelsea, as well as their FA Cup win over Blackpool.
Move to Everton and Fulham
Not long after the leak, Iwobi secured a £34 million transfer to Everton, where his reported salary increased to £70,000 per week.
During his four-year stint with the Merseyside club, he made 123 league appearances before moving to Fulham in a deal worth up to £22 million. His return to London reportedly came with another pay increase, as Capology estimates he now earns £80,000 per week at Fulham.
This season, Iwobi has been a key player for the Cottagers, featuring in 37 matches across all competitions and scoring seven goals.
