Arsenal suspect that one of their top transfer targets will choose Liverpool if he leaves his current club this summer.
With Mikel Arteta’s side once again falling short in the Premier League title race, the Gunners are preparing to strengthen their squad in the upcoming transfer window. Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arsenal plan to be active, targeting a striker, winger, midfielder, and full-back.
Among their key targets is Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, who has been in outstanding form this season. The 25-year-old forward has netted 24 goals and provided five assists for the Magpies.
However, according to TBR Football, Arsenal believe that if Isak departs Newcastle this summer, he would prefer a move to Arne Slot’s Liverpool.
Finding a top-class striker is a priority for Arsenal, as they have struggled with injuries and inconsistency in their attacking department. Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have both missed significant time, and even when fit, neither has been as prolific as strikers like Isak or Erling Haaland.
This lack of firepower could be a key reason Arsenal have been unable to secure the Premier League title under Arteta.
With reports suggesting that Isak is keen on a switch to Anfield, Arsenal are now shifting their focus to Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres as an alternative.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are seriously interested in signing Isak as a potential replacement for Darwin Núñez. The Reds are reportedly willing to offer four players to Newcastle in an attempt to land the Swedish forward.
As Arsenal anticipate Isak’s preference for Liverpool, they are actively exploring other striking options, with Gyökeres emerging as their leading target.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has previously described Isak’s performances this season as “absolutely sensational.”
